Causes and Symptoms of Dysphagia
Dysphagia can happen at any age, but it is usually experienced by older adults. The causes do vary per person, but it can be caused by one of the following categories:
1. Esophageal dysphagia – it is a sensation where the person feels like the food is stuck or hung up in their throat or chest after swallowing.
2. Oropharyngeal dysphagia – this occurs when one’s throat muscles are weaker than before, causing difficulties in swallowing. When this happens, you may either gag, cough, or choke when you try swallowing. Sometimes, it may even cause you to feel as if something is stuck in your nose and may cause pneumonia.
